About Pup Tent 13
Pup Tent 13 of the Military Order of the Cootie (MOC) is the local chapter (“Pup Tent”) serving veterans in Sierra Vista and surrounding communities. As “The Honor Degree of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,” we bring a spirit of camaraderie, service, and fun to the serious work of our parent organization, the VFW Wikipedia.
Our Mission & Motto
Our prime directive is to “Keep ’em Smilin’ in Beds of White,” delivering volunteer hospital visits and support to hospitalized veterans nationwide. We live by the MOC motto of “Honor, Loyalty, Perseverance and Industry” and embrace the adage “Closer than a Brother, Busier than a Bee” lotcs.org.
History of Pup Tent 13
Founded under the banner of the Supreme Pup Tent in 1920–1923, Pup Tent 13 continues a legacy that dates back to the original organization in New York City on September 17, 1920. Since affiliating with the VFW in 1923, our local members have upheld the traditions of Military Humor and charitable service established by our founders Wikipedia.
Activities & Community Service
- Hospital Visits: Regularly scheduled “scratches” (meetings) at the VA hospital, offering companionship and morale-boosting activities for veterans in care.
- National Home Support: Fundraising and donation drives to benefit the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, MI.
- Special Projects: Participation in Supreme and Grand special projects, including suicide-prevention outreach and support for hospitalized veterans.
- Social Events: Monthly social gatherings, fundraisers, and collaborative events with VFW Post 9972 and Auxiliary units.
Membership & Meetings
- Eligibility: Open to active VFW members who have served as Post officers or demonstrated leadership in significant VFW functions.
- Meetings: Pup Tent 13 convenes on the first Thursday of each month at 5:00PM at VFW Post 9972 (address). New members are always welcome—earn your distinctive red Cootie hat through commitment and service!
